I went there with NoScript enabled and I'm reasonably sure that I didn't get infected with any malware while visiting the site. With this aside, DesktopOK has worked fine for me. Maybe somebody that does have a good collection of malware scanners could download the zip file from the above link and scan it for malware. I don't have an exhaustive collection of malware scanners. DesktopOK is freeware designed to help you save and restore desktop icons position and frequent screen resolution changes. When you tell it to save the locations of your icons, it saves them in an ASCII 'DesktopOK.ini' file, in the same directory where 'DesktopOK.exe' is. You unzip it and double click on 'DesktopOK.exe' It just runs. zip file that contains a single file: 'DesktopOK.exe' Which doesn't install anything. Which looks like the same site you downloaded it from. I jjust went to my downloads directory and saw that I saved the URL where I downloaded it from: I downloaded and installed DesktopOK several years ago and it didn't install malware then. I may have done something wrong causing the issue but hopefully I didn't. I would like to DL and install the program but (of course) certainly don't want the excess items listed above.ĭoes anyone know a safe way to download the DesktopOK program using the provided following link - without also getting all the issues as documented in my previous post. DesktopOK does not need to be installed on the hard disk, it can be run directly from the Windows desktop, and therefore it is portable: we can transport it. I already know that I am older than most Senior Citizens but - I have began to think I am either "dumb" or very unlucky with such events as this.Įric, do you have any idea concerning what I may have done wrong (or did not do) to cause the above. Next, I checked and found my Home page had been changed from this forum to Google Search for which I changed back to the link for this page. Next, I run Malwarebytes and it found over 20 items which I had it to delete and it did a shut down. Next I run Adwcleaner and it found many items primarily in the Register area for which I had it to delete ALL then it did a shutdown. Of course, I don't want anything "fixing" my machine since it was not broken (and was clear of adware and malware) before this access to the site.Īnyway, in summary: I removed the program using the Uninstall function. I did not select the "blinking offer" but evidently the download continued and without any further action on my part, it installed something regarding "fixing my machine". I tried to DL the DesktopOK using the referenced above link and after clicking the Download, it indicated that a specific unzip type file was needed (did not make note of the name). All I need is a basic method (program) to save the Desktop Screen Position of my Icons and also to be able to Restore them in the same position as saved. really easy to run - Save - Restore icons any time you wish. DesktopOK is a super little very veratile FREE program I've had it on my XP laptop for a few years now. We recommend this program to all users. As already mentioned. It comes as a zip file and is accessible after extraction with no need to install. ![]() We like that it's small and portable, making it easy to keep handy on a thumb drive.ĭesktopOK is free. Overall, DesktopOK certainly isn't sophisticated, but it is an easy-to-use tool for tidying up your desktop icons after they've gotten out of place. The program comes with a brief HTML Help file that opens in Internet Explorer, which is mildly annoying. You can save multiple icon arrangements and name them for reference. Using DesktopOK is fairly straightforward: simply click the Save button to save the current arrangement of icons and Restore to fix them after they've become disorganized. Fortunately, we'd already used DesktopOK to save our icon layout and were able to restore it easily, but we'd have been pretty irritated if we'd clicked the Punch the Icons button first. ![]() The program's interface is basic, and although it's fairly easy to figure out by virtue of its lack of features, some tool tips for the buttons would have been nice, especially the "Punch the Icons" button, which rearranges all of the icons on the desktop, as we learned the hard way. It's nothing fancy, but if you frequently end up with a desktop full of scrambled icons, this program could make your life just a little bit easier. DesktopOK is a basic, compact program that lets you save and restore the positions of your desktop icons.
